TRAVERSE CITY, MICH., NOV. 7, 2008 – If the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon is any indication, major race and event organizers could soon be turning their vinyl advertising signs and banners into environmentally friendly collectibles.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership, Marine Corps Marathon organizers worked with priorLIFE to “recycle” the 2007 event’s giant finish line custom vinyl banner into colorful, mesh tote bags. Randomly selected 2008 runners were given these special, collectible bags full of high-value “goodies” including airfare, running shoes, hotel stays, and more as a way to commemorate their participation in the race.
The partnership is being expanded for 2009, as vinyl advertising banners and signs from this year’s race are being refabricated into even more bags and collectibles.
Commenting on the partnership, Marine Corps Marathon Sponsorship/Marketing Manager Marc Goldman said, “Runners were doubly thrilled to receive a priorLIFE bag as part of the Super Size Goodie Bag program. The 33 randomly distributed bags were designed from the 2007 MCM finish line banner giving runners an opportunity to own a unique piece of the marathon while receiving valuable sponsor-provided prizes. Incorporating priorLIFE into the Super Size Goodie Bag program was a novel opportunity for the MCM to be an environmentally responsible event.”

priorLIFE Director Pam Klumpp said the Marine Corps Marathon is just the beginning.
“We’re thrilled the event and the collectible bags were such a hit. It’s really a case study for what any race or event can do: create great, useful custom vinyl banners…and then turn them into fun, stylish bags that help promote the event and help the environment.”
