CHICAGO’S ICONIC WRIGLEY FIELD TURNS TO BRITTEN AND GOES PURPLE FOR NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS FOOTBALL GAME - 11/30/2010
Nation’s Premier Provider of High-Quality, Large-Format Stadium & Arena Banner Solutions Converts Wrigley Field to Northwestern Wildcat Territory
Chicago, IL (November 30, 2010) – The Chicago Cubs, Northwestern University (NU) and Britten teamed up to make Wrigley Field look and feel like a home game for Northwestern University football this Saturday for the Wrigleyville Classic, a Big Ten football game between Northwestern and Illinois. “Our challenge going into this project was building Northwestern Wildcat home game excitement at the most beloved baseball park in America, a ballpark whose existing look just happens to scream Chicago Cubs’ blue,” said Amy Potter, General Manager, Northwestern Sports Properties. “Britten’s creativity, experience and ideas were exactly what we needed to conquer this challenge.”
The banner solution called for gigantic, colorful Northwestern imagery placed inside and outside the stadium. “Our original guidance for the arena was to ’purple-ize it,’” said Britten VP, Peter White. “Of course it was a Wildcat who said that. We were able to work with NU’s design staff and the Chicago Cubs in order to get this done at Wrigley Field in a tasteful way.” Britten produced a custom stadium banner solution that installed over 20,000 square feet of custom-fitted graphics to bring the ballpark alive for a Northwestern football game. “It was fun to take an iconic professional baseball ballpark’s brand and find a way to share the space with the bold messaging of the Northwestern Wildcats.”
“We are extremely pleased with the final creative design from Britten, who helped make Wrigley Field feel like a Northwestern football venue,” said Wally Hayward, Executive Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Chicago Cubs. “We have received a lot of positive feedback from college football fans, Cubs fans and the Chicago community.”
